About Uptime Robot

Everyone with a website knows that, things can sometimes go wrong. Sometimes it is with the code, the server or the network....

Uptime Robot is all about helping you to keep your websites up.

It monitors your websites every 5 minutes and alerts you if your sites are down (actually, it is smarter, details below).

How It Works? The Details

Here are the step-by-step actions of Uptime Robot to understand it better:

Why Free?

Ok, we know it is hard to offer something for free.

And, to be honest, we can not foresee the expenses it will have. This is exactly why we created Uptime Robot.

As 2 designers/developers (Umut Muhaddisoglu - WebResourcesDepot, Daniel Rimille - SSLmatic) behind this service, we simply want to experience (from our websites, you can see that we think web must be free or cheap).

Hopefully, Uptime Robot will be able to finance itself with sponsors, ads ,etc. which will help us keep it free.

Also, we know that nobody likes a free service going paid. So, here is a little disclaimer to not get embarrassed later: we'll at least be keeping the service for free until 01 April 2012. Until then, we'll see how everything goes.

Will My Website Statistics Get Affected?

For standard website monitoring, Uptime Robot only downloads the HTTP headers of a website which means it doesn't download the analytics tracking codes of Google Analytics, Woopra, etc.

However, these hits will be seen by the web server hosting the websites and they will be added to the website's logs which means they can be counted as hits for analytics applications that use these logs like Webalizer, AWStats, etc.

If you're using keyword checking, than the hits will be tracked in both types of analytics applications.

You may consider adding our IPs mentioned below to the "exclude list" of such analytics applications so the requests of Uptime Robot won't affect your statistics.

What Are The IPs Used?

Uptime Robot uses the following IPs:

You can use these IPs for whitelisting the e-mails sent from Uptime Robot or excluding them from your analytics/statistics applications so the hits Uptime Robot make won't be counted.
